Natural
Forms
The
photographs in this collection are of human and natural forms. They
are taken from a view displaying the interaction between the two.
The human body plays a roll in nature changing forms and colors
constantly. The forms taken directly from nature do the same. The
photographs were taken using a 70 mm lens in order to get into the
soul and heart of the subject. The images are mostly close-ups of
the body, leaves, faces, trees, and hands etc. intertwined in ways
the eye needs time to adjust and absorb.
The
viewer will look at each one of the photographs in a different prospective.
Most images demand a second look because they are familiar object
put together in an unnatural way. Each person will see something
different depending on his or her own experience. I hope my viewers
will establish a point of view that appeals to them.
I
used black and white film as well as color film to obtain the effect
I was looking for. The color photographs are done in hues that are
found in nature itself, and others are black and white silver prints.
Some of the black and white images are treated chemically. I take
the pictures with an image in mind and than go into the dark room
and work on the colors as well as the combined images. I use two
or three enlargers at the same time to manipulate the multiple effects.
The end result is an image with vibrant colors that are found all
around us yet not in the same manner. A leave that is green can
be purple or a human figure can turn orange. In this process each
one of the images is an original and stands by itself. I can't duplicate
the exact image because of the many variables involved. The only
way to duplicate an image is to get close to the original, yet the
end result will not be exactly the same.
In
my black and white images I take in the subject alone. I do not
offer the viewer any background information. I get into the subjects
in an intimate and soft way. And as I get closer, a part of me gets
inside my subject and my feelings are expressed in the way the subject
is situated. The only thing in the photograph highlighted is what
I want to show. Everything around remains unknown and mostly in
dark shadows.
